Packaging is far more than just a protective element. It helps brands promote themselves and increase the shelf appeal of their product. Custom boxes play a significant role in giving your brand an opportunity to achieve all these goals. Whether you are running a shipping company or have a retail brand, customization of boxes will give you an exclusive position in the market. With the increase in demand for sustainable packaging, there are several brands looking for custom boxes and packaging.

The use of custom boxes for products is not just a social media trend that will fade after a couple of days or weeks; it is a reality that brands are embracing. At Premium Custom Boxes, we manufacture boxes with the ability to enhance your return on investment. There are so many commercial benefits that your brand achieves. Our company works not only on the superficial aspects of the packaging, but also goes deeper into material chemistry. We aim to deliver custom boxes for packaging that are perfect in every aspect.

What Are Custom Boxes?

Any packaging that represents a brand and is manufactured with the brand’s specifications is called a custom box. With the advancement in technology, this customization has gone far beyond custom printed packaging with the logos of your brand. Brands select the Material and box style with a multiple add-ons option to get a packaging that resonates with their product.

Features Of Custom Boxes

The best custom boxes are the ones that fully represent your brand while giving a professional presentation of the product. It is the brand that selects the box specifications and decides the main features of the packaging. Some remarkable characteristics of affordable custom boxes are:

  • Affordability
  • Sustainability
  • Unlimited design options
  • Brand representation
  • Product protection
  • Enhance print quality
  • Custom box dimension
  • Custom box styles
  • Brand distinction
  • Customer attraction
  • Enhanced unboxing experience

Material Quality Option

A custom box manufacturer manufactures the material, keeping in mind the specific pain points a brand has. Such as:

  • Moisture damage
  • Product contamination
  • Weak structure
  • Sustainability concern

Cellulose is the main material used in the manufacturing of paper-based materials. This consists of hydroxyl groups that readily bond with water. Paper is naturally hydrophilic and absorbs water. This absorption leads to paper swelling and loss of stiffness. But we need custom packaging wholesale that can withstand moisture.  To resolve this issue, we use the Kraft pulping process:

  • Kraft Pulping
  • Internal Sizing
  • Fluting Medium
  • Barrier coatings

Packaging manufacture, use paper-based materials for wholesale custom boxes.  The selection of material is done based on the delicacy of the product. Aside from multiple material types, there are multiple material thicknesses in the same type. Brands can choose by considering the extent of protection and premium look they want for their material. The major materials that we have are:

  • Cardboard
  • Corrugation
  • Kraft
  • Rigid

Cardboard

This material delivers a balance between cost efficiency and visual performance. Cardboard is clay coated that makes the material smooth and ensures high-quality print. We use this option to eliminate print and color inconsistency. This material is lightweight, which makes it an excellent option for lightweight boxes. For instance, cardboard is a common option in Cereal Boxes and retail electronic packaging. Additional cardboard is recyclable and aligns with your sustainability demands. The following are cardboard custom boxes for your business material subtypes:

  • SBS Board
  • CUK Board
  • FBB Board

Cardboard boxes have applications in multiple industries, such as:

  • Retail cartons
  • Cosmetic packaging
  • Pharmaceutical boxes
  • Food sleeves
  • Lightweight electronics packaging

Corrugation

When high-end custom boxes for shipping are required, then corrugated material is used. This material has resolved storage and Transit issues by reducing product damage. The high compression strength and lightweight optimize the shipping cost. Corrugated material has flutes that cushion the packed items. These flutes have air pockets that act as thermal and shock insulators. We apply surface liners on the surface of flute materials to make them easy to print. Aside from this, moisture-resistant coatings are applied to the boxes that enhance the durability and make the material excellent for supply chain conditions. Corrugated material has the following subtypes for custom boxes with logo for shipping

  • Single Wall
  • Double Wall
  • Triple Wall

Corrugated material has various types of densities that define the overall material thickness. These flutes range from A to F. You can select Proper materials for handling demand and supply packaging. The following applications of this material are common:

  • Shipping boxes
  • E-commerce mailers
  • Industrial packaging
  • Bulk food transport
  • Appliance packaging

Kraft

The high strength and sustainability of kraft boxes make them an excellent option for climate-conscious brands. The long wood fibers have tear resistance and high tensile strength. For brown eco friendly custom boxes, you can go with kraft material. If you need printed boxes, then the option of bleached kraft is also available. This material easily adapts to multiple coatings and laminations that allow businesses to balance durability and branding requirements. Kraft eco-friendly boxes have the following types:

  • Natural Kraft
  • Bleached Kraft
  • Recycled Kraft

Brands prefer Kraft materials to create custom boxes:

  • Grocery bags
  • Takeaway wraps
  • Bakery boxes
  • Organic product packaging

Rigid

This material is selected for maximum strength and is used for custom boxes now. Rigid material is manufactured with dense boards and protects the delicate items. This material maintains its shape and enhances the perceived product value. With its thickness, you can select the integration of embossing and magnetic closures for luxury packaging. Rigid custom boxes made in the USA are manufactured to enhance customer perception and brand positioning. This material has the following subtypes:

  • Greyboard Rigid
  • Chipboard Rigid
  • Laminated Rigid

From magnetic custom boxes to luxury custom boxes for clothing, all are manufactured with rigid material. Some of its common applications are as follows:

From custom boxes for food to retail packaging, we give you a holistic packaging material for all brands.

Printing Processes You Can Choose From

Printed custom boxes are necessary for a personalized look. But inconsistent color reproduction and low printing quality make the brands struggle with the quality of the boxes. A low print quality also impacts the scalability across different stock-keeping units. These issues directly impact brand identity and shelf visibility. That is why our company uses advanced printing technologies that have controlled ink mechanisms. This aligns the design with production scale requirements. To print custom boxes, we use the following processes:

Offset Printing

This printing process to design custom boxes operates on the principle of oil-water repulsion. Hydrophobic image areas attract oil-based inks while hydrophilic non-image areas retain water. This separation ensures precise ink placement with minimal dot gain. Offset printing gives high-resolution consistency across large runs and reduces batch-to-batch variation. This printing method is ideal for rigid boxes and folding cartons with Pantone accuracy and fine typography.

Flexographic Printing

We use anilox rollers with engraved microscopic cells that regulate ink volume and are an excellent option for the cheapest custom boxes. The cell geometry directly controls the ink’s film thickness and enables uniform deposition even on porous substrates like corrugated boxes. The issue of uneven ink absorption that leads to dull prints is eliminated with flexography. Flexo inks are water-based and are sustainable. In these inks, polymer dispersion forms a film upon drying that reduces the volatile organic compounds emission.

Digital Printing

There is no use of printing plates in the digital printing process. Electrostatic charges or microdroplets are used to print designs. This is a toner-based method where microdroplet injection is used for cheap custom boxes with logos. Digital printing uses electrography, where charged toner particles adhere to oppositely charged areas and fuse with heat. You can get variable data printing that will solve stock-keeping unit fragmentation challenges for B2B brands. An inkjet system controls the droplet size of picoliter, which will enable precise gradients without over-saturation. Small orders are usually printed with digital methods, such as gift boxes or subscription boxes.

Gravure Printing

This printing contains etched cells that hold ink. Gravure printing gives depth and size to these cells to determine ink volume. This enables extremely consistent and high-density prints. Gravure printing is an excellent option for luxury packaging where color richness and repeatability are critical.

At our company, we give quick custom boxes with our high-end and fast-drying printing method. We solve the issue of color inconsistency via controlled ink transfer. To manage substrate variability, we use an adaptive ink system. Being one of the top custom boxes online, we give the most accurate packaging service in the shortest possible duration.

Brands that want to go with minimalist packaging can select white custom boxes with any hue and use them the way they want.

Coatings To Prevent Abrasion

Coatings are an additional packaging layer on the boxes that protect the packaging from abrasion. One of the major concerns that customers have about custom boxes with logo wholesale is moisture resistance. It is understandable that paper-based material is not resistant to moisture and can get soggy if it comes in direct contact with moisture or even grease. Moisture ingress and abrasion damage reduce the shelf life of the boxes. Coatings act as a surface layer that modifies the interaction between the box and its environment at a molecular level.

Aqueous Coatings

This coating consists of dispersed polymer particles in water. Water evaporates when the coating dries, and polymer chains coalesce into a film. Aqueous coating creates a semipermeable barrier that enhances rub resistance and reduces moisture sensitivity. With aqueous coating, brands can ensure print longevity during logistics handling.

UV Coatings

This type of coating is cured by free radical polymerization. So when the coating is exposed to UV light, photoinitiators generate reactive species and cross-link oligomers into a dense structure. UV coating gives premium custom boxes with excellent gloss and chemical resistance. We use UV coating to solve the pain point of surface scratching and a high-end look.

Varnishes

Brands that need to give a moderate level of protection can choose the option of varnishes. Varnishes adjust the surface and improve resistance to fingerprints and minor abrasion. Matte and gloss variants influence light reflection that impacts the visual perception and brand positioning.

Lamination

You can also select lamination that involves bonding a plastic film onto the substrate using adhesives. Adhesive polymers create intermolecular bonds with both paper fibers and the film at a molecular level. Laminations form a multi-layer barrier system that significantly improves tensile strength and moisture.

Barrier Coatings

We also give advanced barrier coatings by incorporating additives like clay nanoparticles or fluoropolymers to reduce permeability. Barrier coatings create textured paths that slow down oxygen and moisture diffusion and enhance product protection. Bakery boxes and high-end apparel boxes usually have this coating.

Add-Ons Selections

We have multiple types of add-ons that encounter challenges, such as product differentiation. These add-ons enhance customer engagement and give a unique status to your brand. Add-ons extend the aesthetics that integrate functional and sensory enhancement at micro and macro levels.

Artwork Preparation Guide

Preparing artwork for various purposes, whether it's for print, digital media, or other applications, requires attention to detail and adherence to specific guidelines. Here is a general artwork preparation guide that you can follow:

Cutting Line (Red Lines):

The red lines indicate the final size of the cuts. Important artwork, such as the logo and tagline of your brand, is kept 0.125 inches inside of the cutting line to avoid cutting.

Bleed Area (Blue Lines)

The bleed area indicates where the blue lines are located. It denotes the extra space beyond the final trim size of the design. This area makes sure that when the final box die line is cut, no white area remains.

Safe Area (Green Lines):

Safe area indicates the space where you can safely print the essential artwork element. The design content is kept in this margin to ensure a professional and seamless design.

Perforation Lines (Red Lines)

Perforation lines consist of the part of a paper that is punched to create dotted lines. The purpose of these lines is to ensure easy tearing or separation along the line.

Creasing Line (Black Lines)

Crease lines indicate the area where the box is to be folded.
